Building a team for growth

The appointment of an Associate Minister / Ministry Assistant for work with the under 40's.

Re-engaging
We're excited about the Good News we have of God's love for all and the way he has shown it in his Son, Jesus Christ. Our aim is "To know Christ and make him known".

We want to grow as a church and reach out to and re-engage with many who don't know Jesus as Lord and Saviour, or have a mistaken view of the Christian faith. To help us do this the Kirk Session has resolved to appoint a second ministry team member to drive forward particular aspects of this work. We are looking for the best person for the role, whether ordained or not.
"The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field" Matthew 9:37-38 (NIV)

The Associate Minister, or Ministry Assistant will help us as a congregation to fulfil our vision of focussing on the under 40 age group, which is largely missing from churches. We are convinced that God is guiding us to place an emphasis on younger adults and families. Alongside this, the new team member will help us to develop a strategy for young people. They will assist us in nurturing the congregation through the age groups in their Spiritual journey, to grow ever closer to God.

He, or she, will work with the Minister in aspects of his pastoral responsibilities and in leading worship.

Re-energising
Some of the specific responsibilities the Associate Minister or Ministry Assistant will be involved with include:
  • developing an outreach ministry to young adults and their families
  • supporting and developing our existing work with teenagers within our congregation and looking to new spheres of outreach to this age-group
  • working to re-engage and build relationships with people who had a church connection, but no longer attend
  • helping to plan and arrange Christian outreach and education; making the most of the out city centre location and contact with schools and other groups
  • assisting the Minister with pastoral duties and, if ordained, the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion and other special services
As a step of faith we are appointing the post-holder for a period of five years. This post will be 100% funded by us here at Perth North Church and friends who have a desire to see our ministry grow. This will be a restricted fund - so every pound given will pay directly for this ministry post.

UPDATE
Interviews were held for this post in mid-August.  After much prayerful consideration the interview panel decided not to appoint at that time.  The steering group reviewed the job description which was approved by the Kirk Session in November. It is intended to readvertise the post as soon as practical.
Please continue to give toward the funding of this essential post.
