'PLAYLIST FOR LIFE' - GUILD

On Wednesday Allison Caskie welcomed members to the Guild meeting 'Playlist for Life' speaker Liz Wilson. 

 

Playlist for life - Music for Dementia - is a charity which was instigated by Sally Magnusson.  Liz gave a most inspiring talk about the charity, its work and positive impact on those and the families that have a loved ones that have dementia.  The Charity was founded in 2013, they received a grant from the Carnegie trust, now in 2020 playlists are providing a flashback of memory to those suffering form this condition.  G.P  prescribe a playlist for dementia patients as they are so effective, they can improve communication and even dance/balance skills.  

 

Silent Auction - in aid of church funds

 

Liz reminded guild members that she is running a silent auction on Saturday 28th March.  If any guild members would like to donate an item for the auction she will be happy to collect them at the next guild meeting on Wednesday 25th March

BLYTHSWOOD DONATION
February 2020

Jacqi Brown raised £700, during 2019, from the sales of homemade jams, jelly and marmalade, also apple tarts, apple and pear crumbles, using produce from her garden & local shops.

 

Members of Perth North Church and other local supporters are thanked for their valued contributions and hope they enjoyed the produce.

'THE MAN WHO WALKED' - GUILD

Margaret Fortune welcomed the guild members to the meeting. The speaker was John Burgess from Balbeggie who has a passion for walking.  He started off the evening by sharing a short account of his journeys around the world.  

 

However the main talk was 'Cape Wrath Ramble' John decided to do this walk which was over 300 miles and took 3 weeks (he did do the odd hill on the way) He also raised money for the air ambulance at Scone. 

 

John gave a very entertaining talk sharing stories regarding the people he met, the bothys and hotels he stayed in and the experiences of being on his own in a tent, also sleeping under the stars.  

 

We were honoured to see an array of beautiful pictures of Scotland from sun rise to sun set.

After almost 5 years of delivering a confidential listening service we are delighted to be launching our Community Counselling Service in partnership with Maggie Edwards of Bridges Counselling. Maggie has 5 years of experience and is a member of The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. She has worked with people struggling with issues including-

'SOMETHING SCOTTISH' - GUILD
Wednesday 22nd January 2020

Ann Graham welcomed Guild members on Wednesday for ‘Something Scottish’.  The evening entertainment comprised of a reading, singing and poetry, all in Scottish. Also 'Hunt the haggis' game.  We had a recital from Lola with her violin which was excellent.  To occupy the members while supper was being prepared, they took part in a word game entitled 'The Mither Tongue'.

JOURNEYING TOGETHER
Wednesday 8th January 2020

The Guild meeting was opened by Janice Taylor who welcomed members after the Christmas break.  Pat Munro gave an interesting talk and power point presentation regarding her involvement with the Zambia project.  The project revolves around Empowering teenage mothers in Zambia.  Pat works closely with Mabel who is a deaconess with the United church of Zambia. the project funds these girls to:

 

> Complete their education 

>Teach those who do not go back to education vocational skills

> Knitting, sewing 

> Looking after Hens

> Hairdressing

>Cleaning 

 

The girls then gain skills which allow them to be employed of start a business of their own.

GUILD CHRISTMAS PARTY
Wednesday 11th December 2019

On Wednesday 11th December the North Church Guild celebrated Christmas with the usual Christmas party.  Enjoying Fellowship Food and Fun.  The evening started off with Alison giving thanks for the food we were about to share.  Meanwhile there was a crossword to keep us busy.  entertainment came from a few select guild committee members who performed a new take on the famous song from the Sound of Music 'Raindrops and Roses'.  The evening finished with some Carol Singing and prayers. 

GUILD MEETING
Wednesday 27th November 2019

On Wednesday 27th November Janice Taylor welcomed guild members to an evening titled ' Companions on the way' which is the theme for the Guild this year.  Reverend Kenneth Stott was the speaker for the evening, who gave an interesting talk on the theme.

THE GANNOCHY TRUST
Wednesday 13th October 2019

The Guild meeting was opening by Margaret Fortune, who welcomed members and the Guest speaker Carol Downie.

 

Carol  gave a very interesting talk on The Gannochy trust. 'The Past, Present & Future'.  She explained the reasons for the trust being set up and what it has achieved and how the vision of A.K. Bell is being carried out for the people of Perth & Kinross also throughout Scotland.

WALKING THE PEREGRINOS
Wednesday 23rd October 2019

On Wednesday 23rd October over 30 guild members attended the meeting titled 'Walking the Peregrinos'. 

The meeting was opened by Evelyn Sheerer who welcomed Anne Stewart who gave a  very interesting talk on her journey walking the Camino from Galicia to Santiago de Compostela. 

 

A vote of thanks was given by Dorothy Kennedy and the evening ended  with tea, cakes and fellowship.

KEEPING IT IN THE FAMILY

Some 200 gathered at Perth North Church on Wednesday (25th September) when Rev Anne Stott (centre) was ordained as an Ordained Local Minister in the Church of Scotland. 

She is supported by her husband Rev Kenneth Stott (Perth North Church) and her daughter Rev Amy Stott (Assistant Curate at Ascension Church, Victoria Dock, London).

 

Anne has recently been appointed as Community Minister for the new community of Bertha Park in Perth. She will also be working to develop support for churches caring for children with Additional Support Needs and their families.

GUILD'S BIG QUIZ
Wednesday 11th September 2019

The "Big Quiz" started our 19/20 season on 11 September with a enjoyable evening of friendly competition.

We had approximately 15 teams taking part from the Guild and wider congregation.  Hamish Coulter took on the role of Quiz Master and Brian Swan had the role of Score Keeper totalling the scores throughout the evening. The winning team was the "Taysiders in Space" which was headed up by Fraser.
