Nosh at the North
Every Thursday evening a hot meal is prepared in the hall of the North Church by a group of volunteers. Anyone in need of a meal is welcome.
Some of the local hostels for homeless do not have cooking facilities, and this service is much appreciated by the homeless, the lonely, and others who are not able to cook for themselves.
Many people also enjoy being able sit down and have a chat with people who care. If you need some company and something to eat, come and join us.
Can you help?
It is not our role to inquire why anybody comes, just to make sure that they receive a hot meal and some company at no cost to themselves. All our visitors really appreciate what is being done.
This project would not be possible without the small band of volunteers from various churches who come on a roster basis to cook, help and talk to the guests. (Commitment is about once a month).
Thanks to donations from members of the congregation of North, we are able to fund the purchase of food for Thursday meals. These folk know that the North Church will try to satisfy their physical as well as their spiritual hunger.
We are blessed by the opportunity to help God's people in this way.
If you would like to help, we are always in need of volunteers - come along (commitment is about once per month).
Last year we provided over 1000 meals to the needy on a Thursday evening.
Many of these people are living in homeless accommodation with poor cooking facilities.
Some are in their own accommodation but are lonely and do not have cooking skills and others sleep rough.
We meet recently released prisoners, people with mental health problems, people with addiction problems - drug and alcohol, and others trying to escape an unsuccessful relationship.
Every Thursday in the new Church hall.
